Plotter Art, "ptpx 2026"

June 2026: A few images mailed as postcards for ptpx 2026 (Plotter Postcard Exchange).

Ptpx is a way to exchange artwork created with a plotter in the form of postcards sent around the world. It is aimed at enthusiasts of generative vector art. Paul Butler organizes the event and each participant registers with Paul for a certain number of postcards that they commit to sending, and in return they receive the same number of postcards from other participants.

For this first registration, I signed up for four postcards and I have already received two of them.

The plotter I purchased a few years ago is a Silhouette Cameo 2. It is primarily a cutting plotter, but dedicated pens are available for it, as well as adapters that allow the use of our own markers.

Below are a few experiments, including some that I decided to keep. The two images in the upper-right and lower-left corners were drawn with a fluorescent gel pen. However, the Silhouette Cameo 2 has a guide that sits too close to the paper, causing the ink to smear as the plotter moves.

The 6 postcards that were kept (4 for the exchange, plus one for Paul and one for myself).

At the post office, just before mailing them to the United States, Finland, and Canada (Toronto, where I spent my postdoctoral year :-) ).

A small video showing extracts of the plotting.
